Penyghent and Winskill Stones, Summer Evening, 2019
The Winskill Stones Nature Reserve, a small area of limestone pavement above the village of Langcliffe in Ribblesdale, is owned by Plantlife International and dedicated to the memory of Geoff Hamilton.
This well known gardener - especially to listeners to Radio 4's Gardeners Question Time - was a great supporter of the campaign to stop the destruction of limestone pavements for use in garden rockeries.
This particular evening, following a cloudy and breezy afternoon, turned out to be one of the calmest of the summer, with the heavy clouds dissolving to a few elegant whisps.
Minutes after the picture was taken, the thin lines of cloud above Penyghent were gone. As was the gentle, warm sunlight.
