ELTERWATER SWANS, LANGDALE, CUMBRIA, 2017
One of my favourite spots in the Lake District. Even more special because it's one of the few places from which you can see Elterwater from a public footpath.
At the tail end of a largely cloudy day, the sun managed to find a gap in the clouds and throw a spotlight on the distant trees. At the same time, the four swans left the bankside in front of me, where they had been for some time, to position themselves perfectly for me to take my photograph before the sun disappeared again.
One of those rare occasions when everything comes together at the right time.
And the name Elterwater is thought to derive from two Old Norse words meaning Lake of the Swans!
